Name the best brands of long term freeze dried and dehydrated foods

I was told Mountain House and Alpin Aire were at the top. Is there better?

I don't think 'best' and 'one stop shop' fit in the same concept.

The 2 you mention are generally considered tops in a not very good category. They are very salty and full of stuff you can't pronounce. They are kind of the big macs of food storage. Some of those, for variety and ease of preparation, are good, but dry beans and rice and sprouting seed are much better nutritionally. Eating nothing but Mt House would, IMO, be very bad for your health.

Also, you need to go get single servings of any product of that kind you consider buying, and see if you like it. We would prefer going hungry to eating some entrees they make but kind of like others.

Beans, rice and sprouting seed you can get at your local stores. Also jams and jellies, pie filling and other long keeping treats. You can buy canned boston brown bread to put the jam on. (Or bake some cake like bread in your own canning jars, which saves money.)

Canned chicken, ham, salmon and tuna are good staples from the grocery store too, but are also salty.

There are many threads in the back pages of this category on this topic. If you go back through all the pages you will get more info. People get tired of typing it over and over for people who won't look for themselves.

For an immediate portable calorie source, MRE's cant be beat. I have approx 50 of these on hand for those situations that you cant cook and need to be able to carry quickly.

Everything else is dry goods, rice, various beans, wheat, sugar, dried apples, dried carrots, dried milk, pasta, etc.

We also have a decent cache of canned chicken and tuna.
